Carn Mor Dearg

The large East face of Carn Mor Dearg is well seen from Aonach Mor and offers fantastic face skiing in the right conditions. It often holds onto snow well into the spring, and is worth the effort to get to.

There are no definite lines as such - it's a case of ski anywhere the snow conditions allow. The main bowl below the summit offers the biggest and best options, but the bowl to the north of Carn Dearg Meadhonach looks good as well.

Approach

The most obvious approach is to park at Torlundy, and follow the path up to the dam. Then cut off left from the CIC Hut path at a suitable point and head for Carn Mor Dearg.

Alternatively, if you want to save the legs for more skiing, you can take the Aonach Mor gondola, then walk round and down to the Allt Daim. This involves a 50m descent (and reascent at the end of the day). From the Allt Daim, you can choose your ascent line:

The East ridge from the summit provides a fine route to the top of the mountain.
The East ridge of Carn Dearg Meadhonach is a Grade II climb.
You can easily pick a way up onto the Northern end of the ridge not long after you drop down to the Allt Daim

Carn Mor Dearg East Face

Pick a line, any line! The easiest line is probably from the summit to just above the col with Carn Dearg Meadhonach. In lean conditions, a tongue of snow usually extends low into the corrie by the stream line. In good conditions, you can more or less ski/board anywhere.

The summit area sits on a cap of scree, that has a short craggy section below it. In good snow conditions, it's possible to find a way through the rocky section to the slope below.
